From my personal basketball playing career to my time as a young assistant coach, I found the teams I was involved with mostly all had the same solution to zone offense. The solution was mostly to plant players into the gaps of the zone and have them stand there, passing the ball around until the zone couldn’t shift fast enough and an outside shot presented itself. We’ve all seen this. Against a 2-3 zone the offense forms a 1-3-1 alignment with a point guard, two wings, a high post and low post. Aside from that, there would be some tricky zone set plays with player movement that tended to work if they were executed as designed, but usually only worked once or twice per game before the defense caught on.

When I got my first varsity high school head coaching job at the age of 26, I was in search of something more. I was young enough and bold enough to be open to trying something new, and I wasn’t set in my ways as a basketball coach. I knew there had to be something more out in the coaching world than what I had previously been exposed to. I wanted to find something that could be executed all game long like the traditional zone offense of standing in the gaps, but offered more movement and options like a zone set play. I searched and I searched, but didn’t find anything that fit what I was looking for. So I decided to create my own scheme, and that creation ended up being named “Zone Motion.” It’s proved to be successful year after year.

What buyers are saying:

"We added Zone Motion this season coach; thanks a ton. We are a guard oriented team and it suits us well. Insanely simple and unpredictable for the defense."

-Terry Buckner, McGill-Toolen Catholic High School. Mobile, Alabama

"I’ve been struggling to find the right zone offense for my team. They don’t like running the static type of 1-3-1 zone attack, and we don’t (yet) have the shooters to run a full drive and kick style zone offense. Coach Hackenberg’s Zone Motion offense seems to give our team the right balance of movement (both player and ball), enough of an inside presence to score easy lay-ups and the ability to kick out when required to our (developing) 3 point shooters. As a bonus it can also easily adapt to attacking a 3-2 and 1-3-1 zones as well. If you are looking for something different for your zone offense, the Zone Motion option is a highly recommended option." -Adrian B., Australia

"I used this offense this season (after purchasing the PDF from Coach Hack). I am 100% a believer in Zone Motion—this was easy to teach and gave us something to fall back on when a play fizzled or an action went nowhere. Just my .02."

-Boaz Roth, St. Louis, MO

"I was so tired of the stagnation in our zone offense so I went looking for answers. I found Zone Motion and never looked back. It's so simple, but can be customized to meet the needs of any personnel to attack a zone." -Adam U., Virginia

"I really like this concept of having one Zone Offense that will work against almost any Zone Defensive alignment. Rotating multiple players through the middle of a Zone puts a lot of pressure on opponents to figure out who and what to cover. The post player on the baseline is well placed for their particular skill set and also causes problems for the defense. Coach Hackenberg gives a great breakdown of the simple rules, diagrams of various options, and even a multitude of Zone Specials you can add, which I particularly like." -Terry Battenberg, California

"One thing I was struggling with this off season is what offense to put in against a zone. Zone Motion is a tremendous resource, as with all the other resources available on Coach Hackenberg's site." -Garrett Hickey @Coach_Hickey5

"I saw Flow and Zone Motion on YouTube, and at first I thought about just copying what he did without purchasing the product from him. But I'm glad I made the purchase! I feel like I saved myself a year's worth of mistakes by getting all the answers on the test from the teacher! He really breaks down what you need to do and answers all of your questions in the product, and he has been helpful and open for communication when needed." -Derrick Shelley, Schertz, TX

"I really love the simplicity of the zone motion offense. I was in a dilemma as many coaches can be with stagnant zone offense. The zone motion offense is completely adaptable to any team and allows for different looks according to your own personnel. The best thing about this offense is that you can attack any zone. It allows players the freedom to play without having to overthink." -Trevor Mason, Kentucky

"We use Zone Motion and many of your quick hitters... They work beautifully against the 2-3 zone. We appreciate it!" -John S., Georgia

"Coach Hack's Zone Motion is informative, detailed, and easy to follow. It comes with a step by step guide of how to teach and implement the offense into your system. Overall, a great product that I would highly recommend." -Keith McNeill, South Florida

"Love Zone Motion.... I started running this a couple years ago and my kids love it.... Gives them a little more control and keeps the other team guessing." -Chris M., Oklahoma

"The Zone Motion book is very easy to read... I felt confident installing with my team, and they learned to execute it at a high level very quickly"-Mike S., Florida

"Coach Hack does an excellent job thoroughly explaining Zone Motion. He explains player movements, concepts, and the reasoning behind his offense. Cutting to the back layer of the zone to “reappear” is a highly effective zone concept that works against all zones. I would highly recommend this because of it’s simplicity and effectiveness." -Brandon Kirk, MIssissippi

"Coach Hack's Zone Motion concept is exactly that, motion - 'Poetry in Motion.'  This is a different approach to attacking weak points in the zone. We were able to get advantages in our positionless basketball.... It kept us from getting stagnant on offense. I would highly recommend Zone Motion to any coach." -Patrick Wade, Virginia

"Coach Hack's guide to Zone Motion is detailed, thorough and most importantly will put you in a position to be ready to teach it to your athletes. I would highly recommend this product as well as many other products authored by Coach Hack. Our coaches, athletes and program have benefited greatly from the work of Coach Hack." -Ryan McGonagle, East Canton

"Coach Hack's Zone Motion unlocks the mystery of zone defenses.  It's refreshing to see someone who isn't solely focused on man to man offense, this product offers a simple solution to a frustrating problem, understanding how to handle zone defense." -Justin Tomes, Burlington, Colorado

"This is a great zone offense for teams without a lot of size. We implemented it last season and had success with it. The Zone Motion pdf is a useful tool for teaching this offense. It's very detailed and easy to understand. The drills can be modified to fit your team's strengths." -Antwyon Jones, Lugoff Elgin HS
